WILLIAM ABRAHAM WASHINGTON, CONTRIBUTOR


 


 

William Abraham Washington was born and raised in Pheba, Mississippi. He earned a Bachelors of Science Degree in Biology from Jackson State University in 1961, and a Masters of Science Degree in Health Education at Southern Illinois University in 1965.


  • 1962-1964 he worked as a High School Teacher in West Point, Mississippi.

  • 1965-1969 he worked as a Special Programs Administrator and Assistant Dean of Students at The State University of New York.

  • 1970-1991 he worked as a Corporate Education and Training Consultant for General Motors in Flint, Michigan.

 

In the sport of tennis, he served as a Coach to his six children, two daughters on the WTA Tour and two sons on the ATP Tour.  Both daughters, Micheala and Mashona, reached the top 100 in singles. Both sons, MaliVai and Mashiska, were Division 1 tennis players. Son MaliVai was a Wimbledon finalist.

 

William also served as a Sunday school teacher, avid gardener, and a sports fan of baseball and football.

 

He spent 58 years in marriage to Christine Washington (deceased).

 

William passed away on Friday, September 17, 2021.
